Green Mountain 2008

Thursday, July 3rd

Back to Green Mountain in Boulder.  This was the first time in over 2 years I've tried a speed ascent.  Previous attempts are here and here.  The trail has changed a little bit over the last 2 years - after saddle rock the trail no longer loses elevation as it traverses south toward the north side of Green Mountain.  this probably makes the route a couple of minutes quicker, because there is no elevation lost, and the new trail is pretty fast.

Anyways - here were my splits.  I descended Greenman and then Gregory Canyon instead of Bear Canyon.

7:38 Amphitheatre
17:32 Top of Amphitheatre (9:53)
26:56 First Flatiron cutoff (9:24)
37:09 Greenman cutoff (10:12)  This is probably 2 or 3 minutes closer than the previous junction.
58:12 Summit (21:03)
1:06:27 Leave (8:15)
1:23:06 Greenman cutoff (16:39)
1:29:23 Ranger junction (6:17)
1:50:36 Gregory Canyon Trailhead (21:13)
1:55:31  Car (4:55)  (.6 miles back, 8:20 pace)

Felt OK - not a lot of power going up - but I finally broke my goal of 1 hour!  (although it's tough to compare with the previous ascents because of the route change)  And I didn't get lost!  The run down was quite enjoyable, there are only a few short sections that aren't really runnable.  Next time I think I'll even head straight west off of Green Mountain and then catch up with Ranger.
